Though Rhode Island is not among the five apple producing states in the US (Washington, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California), actually ranking 34th, it boasts plenty of apple orchards to shake tree branch booty. In fact, the official state fruit, Rhode Island Greening, is an old, historic, American variety, known since the 1650s. A large, round apple with flattened ends, its waxy skin is dark green, turning yellowish-green while ripening, and taking on a bronze hue when fully ripened. Inside, the yellowish-green flesh is green and juicy. This apple has a very sharp tart and sour taste. The Greening is especially well suited for cooking because it doesn’t get mealy during the process, and the sugar content intensifies its flavor as it bakes.
Since Americans eat approximately 19.6 pounds of fresh apples annually, just what are we biting into? The apple is a member of the rose family with more than 7,000 varieties grown in the world. It takes energy from 50 leaves to produce one apple. Planting an apple seed from a particular apple will not produce a tree of that same variety. Apples were introduced to the United States via New York by the European settlers who brought seeds with them in the 1600s. There are apples which have an aftertaste of pears, citrus, cinnamon, cloves, coconut, strawberries, grapes and even pineapple! Good to know– apples ripen six to ten times faster at room temperature than if they were refrigerated. Since fresh apples float because 25 percent of their volume is air, we can enjoy the pastime of bobbing for apples.

I’ve owned two Lt17a models (1 stolen from me and the other dropped into a well). They’re great tools for the HVAC/R tech at a great price. I have just purchased another as a back up to my fieldpiece HS36 stick meter.
Fieldpiece: LT17A The LT17A is a manual ranger that covers most of the parameters and ranges you need for most HVAC/R applications. The LT17A meter measures current, resistance, voltage, capacitance, frequency, continuity, and temperature. Test leads store in the meter body and, with the probe tips removed, connect the LT17A to Fieldpiece accessory heads. The body is made out of durable ABS plastic and comes with a bright blue backlight for poorly lit test areas. Get great accuracy using the included k-type thermocouple and an easily accessible temperature calibration pot. The LT17A is a manual ranging DMM that comes with an amp clamp and k-type thermocouple. Use the MIN/MAX function to record highs and lows. The continuity beeper tells you if a circuit is open or closed. Operation of the LT17A is easy. Simply select a range and test.

I bought this same set at a local crafts store. I had purchased a beginner’s book Easy Woodcarving: Simple Techniques for Carving & Painting Wood on wood carving wherein the author stated to buy the highest quality tools you can afford. When I saw this at the store, I noticed that it had blades, gouges and chisels all in one decent-looking box. When I got home and tested them out on a block of basswood, I quickly found the author’s advice coming back to haunt me!
The set only has one handle, so you need to constantly switch the blades. That handle is too small for my medium-sized male hands. The base of each blade is supposed to be flat so as too fit into the tightening mechanism of the handle. Unfortunately the bases on some of the gouges were misshapen and would not fit into the handle at all! Some of the gouges were also fairly flimsy, and bent quite a bit even with shallow cuts into the fairly soft wood. The included saw blade appears to be fairly useless.
I should say, in fairness, I’m a total novice to woodcarving. It’s possible that I’m completely misusing these tools, though I sincerely doubt it. Personally, I’m going to return this set to the store tomorrow and order a set of carving tools that are of higher quality, where the blades do NOT detach from the handle, etc.
I guess you really do get what you pay for!

After receiving the TV, a 46″ variety, I have to say I could not be happier. I’m not having the flashlighting in the corners as some of the other reviewers have, and the 240hz realmotion hasn’t been a particularly big nuisance after tweaking the settings. I’m enjoying the 3d option, however, I wish there was more 3d content available. 3d PS3 gaming is fun but distracting, as I’ve never really needed to deal with what appears to be approaching landscapes before. The one thing that I wish was better is the sound, but honestly, who gets a TV of this caliber and plans to NOT build a sound system around it? Overall, I’m thrilled and would recommend this to anyone who can spare the extra money for a machine. After all, it’s not just entertainment, it’s an investment.
